The holidays can bring mixed feelings and emotions for many people – depending on where you are and what circumstances you find yourself in. At this special time of year, you may even be experiencing uncertainty as to how to handle, celebrate, or relate to the Christmas holiday season. The stress of having your home invaded by so many people, preparing meals, and shopping for gifts with money you don’t have or care to spend, can be overwhelming.
BUT…
Don’t lose your marbles just yet. Whatever your mindset may be or your persuasion about Christmas, these 12 Principles for Christmas Celebration can help – one way or another. Add to the list if you can and leave feedback below to help others handle the holidays with peace of mind.
12 Principles for Christmas Celebration
1. Be balanced in all that you choose to do and not do.
2. Don’t go into debt to buy lots of gifts and decorations.
3. Set a budget for how much you will spend and refuse to go beyond that limit.
4. Beware of shopping with credit cards! Use cash or debit cards as much as possible.
5. Don’t let folks stress you out with too many engagements. Don’t over-commit yourself.
6. Watch your health! Don’t “pig-out.” Master your appetite especially now because that will mean more pounds to lose in the New Year.
7. Beware of self-gratification. You don’t have to lavish yourself and family with unnecessary trinkets.
8. Be moderate in that which is permissible and avoid that which is harmful or questionable.
Know that it’s perfectly fine not to buy gifts for everyone. You especially don’t have to buy expensive gifts for people – not even for the kids.
9. Let others help you if they want to. Don’t get frustrated and stressed trying to do it all yourself. Let others share the load if they so desire.
10. Time is more valuable than money. Don’t try to substitute time with gifts. Your friends and family will rather have you more than monetary gifts. Therefore, enjoy yourself with them. Have fun!
11. Give gifts to God and His cause – both at home and abroad. Since He is the supposed reason for the season, why leave Him out? Be a blessing and bless others. Donate to a cause that’s worthy of support, or go the extra mile to make this season better for someone else.
