7 Blessings to Pray For

“You can do more than pray after you have prayed, but you cannot do more than pray until you have prayed.”

― S.D. Gordon

What a beautiful thing when the God of the universe tells us to pray about this and that. He gives both an invitation and a guarantee of blessings to pray for. It is easier to claim His promise this way and remind Him of His word (He cannot lie). For example, the LORD, the Holy One of Israel, and his Maker says, “Ask Me of things to come concerning My sons, and concerning the work of My hands command you Me.” He also said, “Ask of me, and I will give you the heathen for your inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for your possession.” (Isaiah 45:11; Psalm 2:8). Will you take God up on these blessings to pray for?

Whether it’s to offer praises and thanksgiving for His blessings and gifts, asking for victory, special favors and blessings, or to grow in His grace, character and image, God always likes to hear from His children. You already have the examples of patriarchs, prophets, kings, peasants, apostles, Jesus, and many others throughout Scripture to prove that there is no limit to what you can pray for.

In our post, 7 Benefits of Prayer, we helped you see that prayer is now a widely researched topic even in the medical field and brings about healing of mind and body. Now you can delve even deeper with these 7 blessings to pray for in various areas of your life. But first, here’s a promise to whet your appetite:

“I know the thoughts I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. Then you will call on Me, and you will go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. You will seek Me, and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart. And I will be found of you, says the LORD…” (Jeremiah 29:11-14)

Here are 7 Blessings to Pray For:

1. Blessings of Loving Relationships – Follow Jesus’ example in John 17 and the Apostle Paul, who prayed consistently for all his converts and protégés.

  • Pray for those in your faith community. (1 Thessalonians 5:25; James 5:16)
  • Do not cease to pray and give thanks for one another. (Colossians 1:9a; Ephesians 1:16)

2. Blessings of Success and Prosperity – For those who reverentially fear God and delight in doing what He commands, wealth and riches will be in their house and their righteousness will endure forever. (Psalm 112:1-3)

  • Look to God as the source of all promotion and upward mobility in your career endeavors. (Psalm 75:6, 7; Colossians 3:23, 24)
  • God gives power to get and create wealth. (Deuteronomy 8:18a)
  • Obey and apply God’s word to be successful. (Joshua 1:8; Job 36:11; Psalm 1:1-3)
  • Real, lasting prosperity comes from God. (Psalm 21:7; 118:23-25; 122:6, 7; 50:10-12; 24:1 Jeremiah 33:9)

3. Blessings of Deliverance from Temptations and Evil – When it comes to deliverance of any kind, having an intimate relationship with God is paramount to your overall wellbeing. No one understood this more than King David. Read his Psalms and see how many times he asked for deliverance. (Psalm 34:17, 50:15; 91:15; Matthew 6:13a; Luke 11:4b; 22:40, 46; Mark 14:38;

  • Endure and understand the source of temptations. You will be rewarded. (James 1:12-15)
  • There’s always a way to escape every temptation – take it. (First Corinthians 10:13)

4. Blessings of a Spirit-filled Life – This is the most urgent of all our spiritual needs. You and I cannot be effective witnesses without this God’s infilling. Ask for it every day. Plead for it. Talk about it. Don’t rest content without it. Trouble God until you are sure you have it.

  • See Joel 2:28, 29; Zechariah 10:1; Luke 11:13; John 14:16-18; and Acts 1:8.

5. Blessings of Good Leadership – If you want to continue enjoying more years of prosperity and freedom, it behooves you to pray for leaders and those in authority. If they make bad decisions, we all suffer for it. Therefore, pray for them regularly. (1 Timothy 2:1-4; Hebrews 13:7, 17, 18)

  • It’s actually a sin not to pray for our leaders. (1 Samuel 12:23)
  • Give respect and render to all their due honor. (Romans 13:1-8)

6. Blessings of Divine Provisions – Since nothing is impossible for God, He can provide for all your needs in ways that you cannot even fathom. He can even provide from nothing at all.

  • See Matthew 6:30-33; Acts 2:42-45; and Philippians 4:12, 19.

7. Blessings of Divine Protection and Safety – In today’s turbulent world, daily protection gives peace of mind but you don’t have to hire body guards. Angels and God’s divine protection can cover you. (Psalm 91; 119:65; Isaiah 26:3; and John 14:27)

  • Each of us blows it from time-to-time and needs a lifeline. Even when are suffering for our own carelessness, God can still intervene with mercy and grace. Why not cry out to Him now for divine deliverance and help to handle your troubles? (Isaiah 65:24; Psalm 34:17; 50:15; Psalm 58:9; 145:18, 19; Zechariah 13:9)
